Welcome to The Crafted Tree

There’s something beautiful about a tree.

Its roots reach deep into the earth, grounding it through every season.

Its trunk stands strong and steady, carrying the marks of years gone by.
Its branches stretch outward and upward, always reaching toward the light, always growing.
The word crafted speaks to intention.
Whether I’m teaching, weaving, hiking, or simply reflecting, I try to approach life with care — thoughtfully shaping the patterns of my days instead of letting them just happen.
The tree reminds me that each season matters, and even small, steady growth can create something lasting and beautiful.

When I imagined creating this space, I kept coming back to that image — a tree, carefully crafted by nature’s hand and shaped by time. It felt like the perfect symbol for what I wanted this blog to be: a place to honor our roots, embrace our growth, and share the stories we create along the way.

Why The Crafted Tree?

Over the years, I’ve worn many hats:

  • Teacher, guiding students as they discover their voices and stories.
  • Crafter, honoring heritage through traditional basketry and creative projects.
  • Hiker, exploring new trails and learning to trust my own strength, step by step.
  • Lifelong learner, always seeking new ways to grow and connect.
  • Mother, nurturing my children's hearts and helping them discover who they are while learning alongside them.
  • Partner, walking through life side-by-side, sharing challenges, victories, and dreams.
  • Friend, showing up with listening ears, laughter, and love to strengthen the bonds of my community.

These roles aren’t separate pieces. They’re branches of the same tree — each one shaped by the same roots: compassion, creativity, connection, community, and integrity.

What You’ll Find Here

The Crafted Tree is a space to share my journey and, I hope, to inspire yours. Here, you’ll find:

  • Reflections on teaching and learning, both inside and outside the classroom.

  • Creative inspiration, from colonial basketry to modern crafts.

  • Hiking adventures and lessons, including my journey preparing for the West Highland Way.

  • Stories of growth, change, and connection — because life, like a tree, is always evolving.

Some days, I might write about a classroom project. Other days, a weaving pattern or a trail I’ve explored. Through it all, my goal is the same: to celebrate the beauty of life’s patterns and invite you to see how they weave together.

An Invitation

I hope this blog feels like a welcoming space — like sitting beneath a tree with a cup of tea, sharing stories with friends.

Wherever you are in your own journey, I want you to know you’re not alone. Whether you’re a teacher, a crafter, a hiker, or simply someone seeking inspiration, you’re welcome here.

Let’s grow together.
Let’s honor our roots and reach for the light.
And let’s create something meaningful along the way.
